Lead Artist Sought for Major New Pavilion Commission

Lead Artist Sought for Major New Pavilion Commission

Rothesay Pavilion is inviting applications for a Lead Artist to take on a significant new commission as part of its programme of activity leading towards reopening.

The commission, Threads of the Pavilion, will explore the building’s stories, materials and community connections through contemporary textile practice. We are seeking an artist working in textiles, fabric or weaving to lead the project and develop a large-scale work rooted in place and shaped by collective experience.

This commission forms part of a wider ambition to ensure that the Pavilion’s future is not only defined by its architecture, but also by the people and stories connected to it. The selected artist will work closely with participants and contributors, drawing on memories, histories and lived experience to inform the development of the work.

Rather than a static outcome, Threads of the Pavilion is intended to be a collaborative and evolving process, bringing together individual voices to create something shared, tangible and lasting. It reflects the Pavilion’s long-standing role as a place of gathering and creativity, while offering a contemporary interpretation of that legacy.

The project presents an opportunity for an artist to engage deeply with the local context, working across disciplines and with a range of participants. It will also contribute to the Pavilion’s wider programme, helping to establish a strong cultural identity as the building prepares to reopen.

We are particularly interested in artists who can demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively and sensitively within a community setting, while delivering work of high artistic quality.

If you are interested in leading this project and would like to apply, please email us and we will send you the application guidelines.
