Rothesay Pavilion is inviting artists and members of the public to get involved in two new community commissions that celebrate the people and stories connected to the building.
Threads of the Pavilion is a collaborative textile project that will bring people together to create a large woven artwork for the building. Artists, weavers and members of the public will work side by side, using shared memories and ideas to shape the final piece.
Textiles have a long history on Bute, from home crafts to more recent textile making and design. This project builds on that tradition, using fabric and weaving as a simple way to tell stories and reflect the people connected to the Pavilion.
The aim is to create one piece of woven fabric that brings together different memories, colours and materials. Once finished, it will be displayed in the Pavilion’s entrance, so everyone coming through the doors can see and feel the stories that helped shape the building.
